You see, we work with men and women over 30 who generally don’t like to go to the gym or don’t know what to do.
It’s the jump of a new year, and you’re doing it awesome so far! But, we are approaching the end of January. It’s cold. You’re tired, no work from home, and inspiration is out the window. With few excuses in tow and progress slowing, about 80% of New Year’s resolutions have failed by February.
Have you considered the year and realized that you hadn’t achieved any of the goals you planned? You haven’t swam with a shark, you haven’t jumped in a parachute, and you haven’t lost an extra kilo during confinement. The last two years have been out of our control, and now we’re all struggling to remember it matters. General what year and how to set goals for the future when the future can be so uncertain.
Let’s face it, 2020 was a total write-off, starting 2021 with all of the resolutions and goals set to work, only to be pushed back into a lockdown that severely stalled progress.
So, how do I stay focused on my goals throughout the year? We’re not sure. We’ll give it a try if you want!
As we said, 80% of New Year’s resolutions fail in February, and while that’s not what we want, sometimes it’s unavoidable. The goodwill in the world and a solid plan, sometimes life gets in the way, and that’s okay!
When planning to achieve something, there should always be a contingency plan that considers any problems that may arise.
Sometimes planning for failure is a great way to achieve success. If you think you’re going to use Plan B but only have to use Plan A, you’re already doing better than you think. Unfortunately, it’s unrealistic to be perfect all the time. Plan to be imperfect!
Being specific is a huge key to success, be it time constraints or limitations. Without these parameters, we end up with unrealistic goals, such as a bucket list if you want to accomplish a long list of things before age 50 but don’t have them your senior year. Leave it until then. You are unlikely to do it. I will end them all, leaving you disappointed.
If you want to lose weight, how much do you want to lose, and how long? Also, remember point 1 that as long as you don’t reach the goal in the effort, you put in, specific goals help keep you focused! So set yourself some realistic and specific goals.
You have your backup plan and set your specific goals. And it works! Keep going! You have worked hard and reached your destination. Now what?
Now you have a solid plan that works for you, with a backup plan, just in case, so what could be stopping you from continuing? If it’s the weight you want to lose and you’ve lost the amount you wanted, then if it’s healthy, keep going. If you’re happy with where you are, why not change things? You’re healthy, so set a goal to run a marathon or in hard mud. If it’s too much, perhaps set a purpose related to a skill you want to improve or a weight you want to lift. Sometimes setting a goal to maintain your weight for a certain period can be just as beneficial.
I hope this helped you to understand that you can do it! Mindset is one of the most critical factors in fixing this. But, if that’s not enough and you’re still unsure, ask for help!
